About us

Behind the dyke of the river Lek, close to the historic town of Culemborg, you can find our guest house ‘De Appelgaard’ hidden between old orchards. A place where you don’t have to hurry and where you can enjoy nature: the beautiful landscape of the Betuwe and the river area. This is a unique place that we have been happy to share with our guests for over 30 years.

The former farm with fruit and cows developed step by step into a delightful accommodation where many (loyal) guests have enjoyed a peaceful time. Our guest house consists of different accommodations. You can choose the idyllic cottage ‘Weltevree’, the fully equipped apartments ‘Gravenstein’ and ‘Brederode’ or an atmospheric farmhouse room.

At guest house De Appelgaard you automatically choose for a rural and sustainable stay. We have been using solar energy and CO2-neutral heating since 2018. The walls of the apartments are plastered with clay, which provides an agreeable climate indoors. Thanks to the sliding glass doors to your own terrace, you can enjoy a stunning view over the meadows, the orchards and the dyke.

Go for a walk or step on a bike and follow the winding rivers Lek and Linge, enjoy blossoms, hawthorns and fruit, the authentic villages and the Dutch Waterline (Waterlinie) with its impressive forts. If you cross the Lek dyke, you can go for a picnic or other recreational options at a swimming friendly branch of the Lek. A visit to the many pleasant terraces in the heart of Culemborg, which you will find within walking distance, will add up to the complete experience of your stay.

We are very happy to welcome you in De Appelgaard.
